Serena Williams Fights for Financial Empowerment

The Allstate Foundation Purple Purse, has spent ten years providing financial empowerment to domestic abuse victims. We are familiar with physical and verbal abuse, but how many people are aware of financial abuse? Serena Williams fights for financial empowerment and believes that financial abusive relationships permits a person from having free will over money.

According to WomensLaw.org, financial abuse happens when people are forced to do things like check in with every spending choice, or receive an “allowance,” even though they do not want it. The lack or access to money is one of the main reasons women don’t leave domestic violence environments or why return to them. They feel stuck without the financial empowerment required to truly be free and absolutely empowered.

Serena Williams fights for financial empowerment and so has Scandal start Kerry Washington, who was the organization’s ambassador back in 2014. Washington has urged that women learn about finances as if their lives depended on it.

Serena Williams Fights for Financial EmpowermentFinancial abuse occurs in 98 percent of abusive relationships, according to the National Network to End Domestic Violence and “Scandal” star Kerry Washington is working to change that. The  goal of Washington and the All State Purple Purse Campaign is to remove the stigma. “I think a big part of it is lifting the veil of shame. A lot of times we say, why does she stay? Why do they stay?”

“Imagine not being able to pay for a cab ride because you don’t have money, or not having access to a bank account or the use of a credit card because your partner won’t allow it.” “Financial abuse is a powerful and invisible form of domestic violence that keeps victims trapped, but we can do something about it: We can stand up to abusers, speak out on behalf of victims, and support survivors in their recovery.”  – Madamenoire.com

With the All State Purple Purse Campaign and it;s caring and compassionate volunteers and contributors the lives of millions of women will be saved.
